Football Fandom and Holocaust Education
Currently, I am working at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam (NL) as a PhD-researcher. I work within the project Sport and Nation and my doctoral research is on Football Fandom and Holocaust Education. I am interested in football-related antisemitic discourse(s) in on- and offline spaces. My research also involves educational programmes initiated to prevent discrimination and antisemitism in football stadiums in the Netherlands. In this project I collaborate with major stakeholders in the field, including the Fancoach project of Feyenoord and Anne Frank House.

Towards an Inclusive History Education
Together with some co-workers I am working on a project called ‘Towards inclusive history education’. The goal of this project is to evaluate the history program in terms of diversity and inclusivity and undo forms of eurocentrism or coloniality in classrooms and curricula. Student experiences and needs will be researched to help make them feel safe and included within our education. A clear teaching guide will be compiled for teaching staff looking to improve their education.

Football Makes History
The overall mission of this project is to unleash the potential of football heritage to contribute to social change and historical consciousness through local educational partnerships among football clubs and schools. The Football Makes History team consists of a consortium of educators, researchers, heritage professionals and civil society organizers. Past project(s)

Changing the Chants
Changing the Chants is one of the most exiting projects I have worked on. Changing the Chants is a European project aiming to combat antisemitism in football through informal education and law-enforcement. The project was supported by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme and consisted of a cooperation between Borussia Dortmund, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Fare Network and the Anne Frank House. The goal was to deepen the understanding of approaches that football clubs can use to educate fans on antisemitic behaviour in the football stands. The project resulted in a compendium of best practices and policy recommendations. If you want to learn more about the project you can visit the project website. The project also resulted in a documentary made by Stefano di Pietro. The documentary presents a multiperspective investigation on the problem of antisemitism in European football. Through the eyes of educators, football supporters, representatives of Changing the Chants partners, researchers and professionals, the documentary explores the complexity of the problem and investigates the possibilities of a change. You can view the documentary below.
